Sick

If I haven’t returned your calls lately, tough.

Comment of the day: Being sick sucks (especially when you loose your appetite). Lets hope the past two days were the worst of it cause I have to work tomorrow from 2pm-9pm

Forgetting

I'm probably forgetting a few states, although this map probably does a decent job of going through most of them. Lets see if I can knock off another one or two over the next two months :-)

3000+ miles

leigh.jpg

Leigh is the redhead....Jason once again is sitting down.

I left Boston Thursday around 6pm for the wonderful drive to Princeton. I ended up working in the car the entire ride down. I definitely think that broadband wireless connections are needed very badly. I was working on a connection that was reminiscent of a 14.4k modem....holy fuck that sucked.

Friday was a play day meaning we were running around getting equipment set up for the regatta on Saturday morning USRowing Fall2005 Speed Orders). Dinner included us bringing a bottle of wine to a Indian/Thai restaurant and me going to bed at around 1am.

Saturday: Up at 4am in order to shower and be at the race course around 5-530am. I ended up meeting the cornel women’s coach at 5am in the local 7-11ish type place getting coffee which was pretty cool. Racing began at the absurd hour of 7am. Any way the regatta went off without a hitch except for our brand new APC unit crapping out on us. Drove to Newark and ended up having our flight delayed for an hour, which was OK because we ended up abusing the AmEx platinum card privileges and set up shop in the continental Admirals Club. The flight finally left for Seattle. I think I ended up going to bed around 130am which means I was up for roughly 24hours and 30min...SUCK.

Jason got a cavity search by the people at Sea-Tac. We did learn something interesting about the numbers on our tickets because of this experience.

Did not

I made a special point of giving him a call even when I was over booked and busy like it was no-ones business. He didn't even bother to get back to me via a phone call. I got an email two and a half days later...not again.

HoCR extracts

I've finally begun to extract images from the capture files from the HoCR Below are some of the more interesting ones. As I slowly go through the huge amount of data I'll post some of the better ones that I come across.

this is essentially what we look for on the computer and we align this nifty line up with the edge of the bowball to tell you exactly what your time is to the thousandth of a second (.001)

The oars don't normally bend the way they do in the pictures (well they do a little bit, just not that much). The effect is due almost entirely to the fact that these are taken with line scanning cameras which means that the camera takes only one row of pixels (aka a very narrow frame) very very quickly and then stitches the 'pictures' together to come up with the images you see above.

Head of the Elk (HoE)

Well I've been back from Indiana since late late sunday night and as of last night there was only one dispute over the race results. From a technical standpoint the race wasn't that large, we just had a lot of environmental factors go against us. For future regattas we're trying to make changes to our setup so that the same sort of problems do not effect us again. In the mean time, have some pictures :-)

Matt one of the PowerHouseTiming employees.

This was taken about 20 minutes before our flight left Southbend. Upcoming events include USRowing Fall 2005 Speed Orders on Carnegie Lake in Princeton, N.J. and the Head of the Lake Regatta in Seattle. Those are both next weekend and I'll be leaving on thursday night for the first one...god another weekend away from home, thank goodness I don't have anything major planned for this weekend. I'll get pictures of two of the other PHT people Jason and Leigh when next I see them.
