My roommate who describes himself as a "professional websurfer" sent me this wonderful little bit this morning.
Once again the Japanese surprise me with the lengths they will go to get something done/win something. Im guessing that the clip was from a gameshow of some sort
I finally decided to go to the health center today after I woke up tweice last nigth cause of the pain. I slipped/fell yesterday playing Ultimate Frisbee (which I won't go to again...too competitive) and did somethign to my left hand. Two of the fingers were bent back and wouldn't go back into position.
Flash forward tot today. My class im teaching looks like they are going to be really good (with a few exceptions...but there always are though). I have one Senior in this class of freshmen which is a tad weird. OpenGL went well. I learned how to draw a Ying-Yang. Nothing too fancy, but I still feel like I accomplished something.
1. Are you going to school this year?
Yes. Of course, atleast I think im going to school.
2. If yes, where are you going (high school, college, etc.)? If no, when did you graduate?
Syracuse University for graduate work in Computer Science(Systems Assurance). Actually its the same place I did my undergraduate work (Computer Science as well)
3. What are/were your favorite school subjects?
Cryptography, Economics and Literature.
4. What are/were your least favorite school subjects?
Writing. Fuck it. I can't spell for shit. If Microsoft Word didn't have a spellchecker built into it I would be sooo screwed.
5. Have you ever had a favorite teacher? Why was he/she a favorite?
My favorite professor would have to either be the one who taught introductory macro-economics, or the one who taught lit314. Both of them were really knowledgeable about their respective subjects (one hopes this is the case with college professors, but who knows). They were always suggesting extra reading relating to what was being discussed in class. Excitement like that is contageous :-)
questions curtosy of Friday Five
Pardon the excitement, but I love all of my classes (well those that I have actually had so far, Yoga doesn’t start until the 2nd). 774 looks like it will be a course in which I will repeatedly be putting my balls on the proverbial toilet seat and slamming the lid down as hard as I can. In 583 the professor said he was going to teach us how to hack (a little bit anyway) but then said we weren’t to use what we learned outside of the classroom and the lab he had set up. 425 is well, 425, is taught by a short man presumably of Indian origin (or there about). This is probably going to be my least favorite class seeing as the professor can’t seem to modulate his voice at all so I’m going to need to start popping Vivarin like they are skittles in order to stay awake.
On the upside I went to the gym again today and it was great. Unlike the last time I went everyone seemed to actually be getting their heart rates above the resting level, thus producing what some people know as sweat. I am making a resolution now. I will go to the gym every day (except Sunday…probably). I’m not sure what the consequences of me not making this are, but ill think of something. Reid said that I was to start dragging him to the gym when I go so now ill have someone to go with rather than the random people I meet along the way.
I ended up going to the gym this evening to do some cardio with a little bit of lifting afterwards. Holy crap the place was filled. I have never seen so many people waiting in line for machines in my life. The worst thing about it was there must have been most of the sorority population there at the time using the treadmills and elliptical trainers, this normally wouldn’t bother me except not a single one of them was sweating. I thought the entire purpose of going to the gym was to do a workout that got your heart rate up and therefore a little bit sweaty. But nooooo, getting sweaty might ruin their perfect complexion and their undoubtedly designer workout clothes (wtf is up with that anyway).
So I ended up only doing 13 minutes on the elliptical trainer and none of the lifting that I wanted to do. I guess there is first thing tomorrow morning to avoid the rush.
Man I havn't heard this song for a few years, but man is it typical 80's type music. I sooo was born about 10 years too late.
Asia - Heat of the Moment
I never meant to be so bad to you
One thing I said that I would never do
A look from you and I would fall from grace
And it would wipe the smile right from my face
Do you remember when we used to dance
And incidents arose from circumstance
One thing led to another, we were young
And we would scream together songs unsung
* It was the heat of the moment
Telling me what my heart menat
The heat of the moment showed in your eyes
And now you find yourself in '82
The disco hot spots hold no charm for you
You can concern yourself with bigger things
You catch a pearl and ride the dragon's wings
'Cause it's the heat of the moment
The heat of the moment
The heat of the moment showed in your eyes
And when your looks have gone and you're alone
How many nights you sit beside the phone
What were the things you wanted for yourself
Teenage ambitions you remember well
(* repeat)
I am sorry to be the one to bring this to everyones attention, but DisneyLand has been invaded.
For the fifth year in a row, Disneyland will be creeping with mobs of black-clad death-rocker types for what organizers officially bill as Bats Day in the Fun Park, but what most people just call Goth Day.
So I guess what is suppossedly the 'happiest place on earth' will now (for a day) be filled with whiny post-pubescent people with nothing better to do than to further allienate themselves from the rest of society.
Weather update: look out the freaking window
One of my friends at Wisco sent me and email with a like to this story. It illustrates a number of good points about how NOT to engineer a product. aka hard code a specific IP address into a router/software/anything, not doing enough testing to realize something like this can happen, making a product keep trying at a faster and faster rate if it dosn't recieve the answer it expects.
Anyhow, this is about the DoS attack (suppossed) thats been happening at the Wisco campus lately.
well im back at school (again) and this year im looking forward to it. The weather has been hot, and the neighbord have for the most part been not all that loud. The freshmen like always are as stupid as ever (although that can't really be helped). For those of you who go to Syracuse to illustrate what I just said, I saw a group of 9 freshmen walk up the steps of Carnegie library and try to go through the doors...
Things that have happened so far:
Cable guy finally showed up and installed roadrunner (YEA :-))
I have three large blisters on each of my hands (damn rowning)
I think I might have made a number of parents really nervous by going running around campus for 20 minutes or so the other day when it was hottest out
Ill eventually get around to putting up some pictures of my summer. In the mean time, heres is one of my aunt and me being pulled behind our boat . Ill also get around to figuring out how to put pictures directly in the main text of messages.
well today I can say I actually did some physical work other than waterskiing. I split wood, actually I went on something like a binge and ended up splitting enough wood for myself this winter and for my parents for the next 3 or 4 winters (Reid: Im not bringing out wood at this point, ill bring it thanksgiving). I got a license plate for the boat trailer. and got a bunch of 4oz paint samples incase I decide to purchase an unfinished piece fo furniture this fall.
Oh yea, I ended up seeing a teacher I had in 4th-9th grade (she tought music). It was great talking with here again. Turns out shes been doing some opera and has a bunch of dirt on Placido Domingo (I think thats how its spelled anyhow)....now its time for a beer and a pizza
stupid stupid dialup connection. I think sometime this week I might need to redue the telephone wiring in the hosue. For some reason I can't get a connect speed more than 14.4k...which when trying to upload pictures really really sucks.
Update on superbitch (aka the aunt). Man was she a pain in the ass. Just to illustrate how the weekend went (graphically) she stopped up the toilet in the main house and didn't bother to tell us >:-( and then got into her car and drove away....
more detailed update will come when I once again have a decent inet connection
I really wish I had something better to do with my time right now. I decided to peruse the online newspapers just to see what events were taking place in the biased views of our contries newspapers and I ran across this story
appearantly some other person with even more free time than I have at the moment found some spider silk that was 130million years old. I really wish I knew what the applications of this momentous discovery might be, but then again it probably wouldn't really effect me (yet)
Well two nights ago I ended up watching an over-hyped TV premier, "The OC". It was your typical made for teen drama type program, with the typical people who look like they just stepped out of a fairytale world, rathar than the real life. They of course have more money than they know what to do with, except one white kid (didn't see that one coming...) It is filled with monotemous sexual tension as the poor kid begins to like a rich white girl. The highlight ov the movie was probably the quote "Wow, I'm sorry. I should really learn how to knock incase someone is having a threesome"
Other than that things are going decently, looking at desks for the apartment (finally decided that ill move back out on the 18th) played phone tag with a couple of exs.
Oh yea, the real highpoint of the day, I found out my bitchy narcissistic aunt is coming up to our lake house for the weekend (yea :-( ). This is the same person who has been on more drugs than I care to know about (Lithium, demerol, Paxil, codine, morphine...) Think of the person in American Psycho who Bateman goes out to dinner with , the blond one he was screwing on the side. So my weekend should be pretty much be shot straight to hell. I did something today I havn't done in a couple of years, I actually bought a CD...
You know its getting too hot and muggy out when you start to have electronics
fail on you because the humidity is getting up too high. I sooooooo wish I were
back in NH waterskiing.
All I can say is thank goodness that I don't have a job at this point.
I'm trying to claw my way through mt without bothering to really read
the instructions (probably part of my problem)
Yea I've gotten fed up with xanga, the fact that they want money and the childish
attitude that certain people there maintain (not to mention the lack of control over
the blog I had there). So thanks Reid for the account.
Eventually as I learn about mt, and make some changes this place will begin to
look a little bit more lived in. :-)
