Service (of the Foreign Type)

There was a career fair today and I ended up going to it (despite the knowledge that it would be packed with smelly indian graduate students). I was waiting in line to talk with IBM about an internship position over the summer in one of their research locations and the next booth over was the US State Department. There wasn't really anyone talking to them so after I was finished talking to IBM I went over.

Making a long story short, we ended up talking for about 15 minutes about my qualifications, travel experiences and about what exactly the state department was looking for. She (Bernadette Allen) thought I would be perfect for the Foreign Service. Ive been reading up on the material that she gave me and other info that ive been finding throughout the web and strangely it seems very appealing. They even have internships (not just in DC but they'll ship you throughout the world)....mmmm spending the summer in France or England, I'm drooling at the possability.

In other news, I managed to eek out 3.5k today despite the fact that my blisters are killing me. As a reward after I finished lifting I came home and ended up making steak with bacon. Alas no stouts to have with it so I had a glass of Gatoraid.

current mood: annoyed (correcting 40ish papers from students)

Working for the state department would be interesting, to say the least. And the traveling sounds good...
I'm all for it, purely because its always nice to know people who have more "sway" than I do. Of course that would be pretty much anybody right now...
